Less building a new base and re-researching everything for each mission.ģ. Less games where you have control over individual soldiers.Ģ. Simply because I'd like to see more originality, not because I dislike that kind of game.ġ.

If you mean Warcraft/Starcraft style games, I'll agree. Like air-boats on a marshland map, or multi-legged walkers on a mountain peak. To compensate, players would have to alter their tactics and/or build orders, or the game could offer some unit types and variants that are only available on certain kinds of maps. For example, a Jeep would be less effective in snow, while Tanks get mired in swamps or deep mud. For example, I would like to see different terrain types have more dramatic effects on different units. #3: What would you like to see(more of) in RTS games in the future?Ī: Terrain that is more than a pretty backdrop. I would like to see more initiative for units, even if it's something you have to set for yourself. #2: Do/Would you prefer micromanagement or more initiative for individual units in an RTS game? If that falters, it goes for the side, attacking through the forest you thought was a safe barrier. When the frontal assault fails, it hits the rear. It's the only one I've played (so far), where the computer will actively seek out new routes of attack. Even though they didn't take the idea as far as they could've, I liked the idea in that it expanded options and playing styles a little bit deeper than just the faction level.ī: Dark Reign's AI. #1: What are your favorite individual game mechanics in an RTS?Ī: Red Alert's sub-factions.

I just want to ask a few questions about the genre, bounce some ideas off you, and hear your own. Just a thread for those of use to like to command armies on the battlefield without necessarily having to glue and paint them together.
